What Does A Boil Advisory Mean

Anytime a Boil Advisory is issued, it means that there is a chance that contaminants have entered the water system. You will be advised to disinfect any water used for consumption or food preparation. You may use either of the following methods: 1) Boil the water for 5 minutes, after it comes to a rolling boil, or 2) mix 30 drops of unscented liquid chlorine bleach with 1 gallon of water and let stand for at least 30 minutes.

Procedures involved in lifting a boil advisory:

1) Flushing lines for 24 - 36 hours after water has been restored.

2) Collecting samples and submitting to LA Dept. of Health for testing.

3) Awaiting test results & permission to lift boil advisory from LA Dept. of Health, which could take up to 72 hours.
